Blue Devils lead the way with real-world impactful research at the Capitol this year! At this year’s Research in the Rotunda, students across disciplines shared months (and years!) worth of research with those in attendance.

Chemistry major Reese Hufnagel is researching how to reduce the danger of space reentry debris, work that has led to her and her faculty mentor Matthew Ray forming a startup to commercialize their work. Her path shows what’s possible when students get hands-on research opportunities from day one, or “Day Negative Two,” as she puts it.

Cybersecurity majors Chloe Kaneski and Fletcher Meyer explored how AI agents can support incident response, discovering why human oversight remains essential in industry. Their insights highlight both the potential and the limits of emerging tech.

UW-Stout undergraduate student researchers and faculty advisers participated in the 2026 Research in the Rotunda event at the Wisconsin State Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Students displayed research posters and shared findings on a variety of topics with Wisconsin legislators, state leaders, UW alumni, and supporters from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman delivered remarks at noon. The annual event highlights the contributions of undergraduate researchers.
Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers at the 22nd annual Research in the Rotunda event, bringing innovation and discovery to the Wisconsin State Capitol as about 125 exceptional undergraduate researchers, alongside their faculty advisers, presented research findings.
